Privacy policy

This policy explains what Hintle collects, what it does not, and what leaves your browser when you use the site.

Last updated: 9 September 2026

The short version

There are no accounts, no logins and no tracking profiles on this site. Your streak is stored in your own browser and is never transmitted to us. The main thing worth knowing is that a few third-party services see your IP address when the page loads, and those are listed below.

What we store in your browser

Hintle saves one item to your browser’s local storage, under the key hintle-stats-v1. It holds your current streak, best streak, number of puzzles played, and the date you last revealed an answer.

This data lives only on your device. It is never sent to our servers, never shared, and we cannot read it. Clearing your browser’s site data removes it permanently, and the site continues to work normally without it.

What we do not collect

No accounts

There is nothing to register for, so we hold no names, passwords or profiles.

No tracking cookies

The site itself sets no cookies for advertising or cross-site tracking.

No selling of data

We do not sell or rent personal information, because we do not hold any.

No behavioural profiles

We do not build a picture of you across sessions or across other websites.

Third parties your browser contacts

Loading any page causes your browser to make requests to the services below. Each of them necessarily sees your IP address and basic request information, as is the case for any website resource.

We do not control how these providers handle the data they receive. Their own privacy policies govern that.

Analytics and advertising

[[ COMPLETE THIS SECTION BEFORE PUBLISHING. If you have not added analytics or ads, state that plainly. If you add Google Analytics, Google AdSense or any similar service, you must name it here, describe the cookies it sets, and — for visitors in the UK, EU or California — obtain consent before it loads. Ad networks generally require this section to be accurate before they will approve a site. ]]

Email

If you email us, we receive whatever you choose to put in that message and keep it only as long as needed to deal with it. We do not add you to any mailing list.

Children

This site is a word-puzzle aid intended for a general audience. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent us personal information by email, contact us and we will delete it.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal data held about you. Because Hintle holds no personal data beyond any email you send us directly, most such requests are satisfied by deleting that correspondence. To make a request, use the contact page.

To remove the streak data held on your device, clear site data for this domain in your browser settings. You do not need to ask us, and we cannot do it for you.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes materially — in particular if analytics or advertising are introduced — the updated date at the top of this page will change. Continued use of the site after an update means you accept the revised policy.
